DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED BY KURDISH LEARNERS OF ENGLISH IN DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN PREPOSITIONAL VERBS AND PHRASAL VERBS: AN ANALYTIC STUDY

Abstract

verbs namely prepositional verbs and phrasal verbs. To bring about this aim, the study sheds light on some linguistic factors that are related to this area of study like structural analysis of prepositional and phrasal verbs and their syntactic /semantic classifications. The study also includes an indication to the results of a questionnaire which was carried out in the Department of English, Faculty of Humanities, University of Duhok in an attempt to find out the type of errors made in this area of study and the causes behind committing these errors. Finally, some recommendations are suggested to help Kurdish learners of English to overcome the difficulties they face in distinguishing between prepositional and phrasal verbs.
